Helping Idaho Dogs' 2019 News and Events
The upcoming events will be updated throughout the year as more information becomes available about the events.
On January 24, 2019 three of our Healing Paws dogs participated in a Literacy Night event at Nampa Early Childhood Learning Center. Blaze, Sage, and Stanley heard lots of great stories and made many new friends.
On January 31 and again on February 7 our Healing Paws teams visited 5th grade classes at Ustick Elementary to talk about therapy dogs and the work they do. The classes had been studying dogs with jobs. Our dogs Blaze, Matisse, and Mia demonstrated their wonderful personalities greeting each child.
BroncoFit is a campus-wide initiative to create America’s healthiest learning environment by encouraging Boise State students, faculty and staff to engage in all aspects of health and well-being. Our Healing Paws teams have been invited to join First Thursday events to promote stress relief and human/animal interaction. Stanley, Sage, Cody, Petey, and Mattise will be on campus February-April for these events.
On February 10, 2019 our certified Humane Education Specialists talked to over 25 children about Dog Safety and how to safely ask for permission to pet a dog. The children then practiced the new skills with therapy dogs Mia, Cody, and Fen.
On February 26, 2019 Maple Grove Elementary had their annual Book Fair and invited our Healing Paws teams to be there to listen to student read. Mia enjoyed all the attention and great new stories she heard.
Remember being nervous about your first interview? Graduating nurses were met by our therapy dog teams as they entered the hiring event at St. Alphonsus. The wagging tails and smiling doggie faces relieved stress for many potential hirees. Blaze, Cody, and Bernie are all part of the Volunteer Services at St. Alphonsus providing pet therapy throughout the hospital.
Our Healing Paws teams provided stress relief on the last day of finals at ICOM. Our future medical professionals got to see first hand the comfort and joy of being with a dog. Blaze, Fen, and Louie enjoyed all the attention as well. Click here to view a news story about this event.
April 11, 2019 Nancy Eimer talked with the students at Garnet Prep about therapy dogs in their Mentor Moment segment. Therapy Dogs Blaze and Bernie got to meet the 50 + students and parents in attendance at the event.
On April 13th our Healing Paws team joined campers at Marianne Williams Park in Boise for a meet and greet and Easter egg hunt. Therapy Dogs Blaze, Rico, and Petey got in on all the fun giving lots of wags and hugs to say hello.
Throughout 2019 our registered therapy dog teams will participate in four training sessions to keep current skills sharp and learn new skills. Watch the Healing Paws calendar for upcoming training dates and times. Check out our photo gallery for pics of our teams at work.
Teams in Training Practice Sessions
Each month practice sessions will be available for our teams in training to practice the skills for the Canine Good Citizen Test and Alliance for Therapy Dog test. Teams attend the practice sessions in addition to working with their individual trainers to attain the skills needed to become a registered therapy dog team.
April 24, 2019 BSU Cups and Pups
The Bronco Club will be offering cups and pups to students as they kick off final.
On April 24 & 26 our Humane Education teams will make 4 presentations to over 70 students and teachers at Ustick Elementary. Students from 1st - 5th grade will learn about Friendship and Safety and about Dog Safety. The skills they learn will teach them valuable skills to keep them safe.
May 2 is Idaho's day of giving when Idahoans support non-profits with their donations during the 24 hour period. As a non-profit that depends entirely on the generosity of our donors, this is a very important day for us. Please consider giving to Helping Idaho Dogs so that we can continue to serve others through the Treasure Valley.
On May 2, 2019 Our Healing Paws team will join the students at ICOM to de-stress as they finish finals. This is the first year of operation for Boise's medical school. We love partnering with our future medical professionals.
On May 23, 2019 Helping Idaho Dogs will join the Childrens' Tumor Foundation for their annual NF Walk. The event will be held on the Scentsy campus.
May 25, 2019 is the Anniversary Sale at NW Pets. Helping Idaho Dogs will have a tent in the parking lot with information about our programs. The booth will be staffed with wagging tails all day. Stop by for a pet.
JOn May 31 Meridian Library will be at Settlers' Park in Meridian for their annual Summer Reading Program Kickoff. Helping Idaho Dogs will be there to help kids pick just the right book to read to one of our therapy dogs!
On June 4-7, 2019 our Healing Paws teams will be at the Adventures in Advanced Communication Camp helping the kids with their projects, reading, and just generally hanging out. It's a fun time for all.

Our Healing Paws teams joins with other therapy dogs on the first day of each camp session to kick of a week of fun and learning at these beautiful Idaho campgrounds.
